Is Steamboat Springs worth visiting?

Absolutely! 100%, yes! Steamboat Springs is heaven on earth for outdoor enthusiasts. With all the hiking and biking opportunities in the summer and world-class skiing in the winter, there’s nothing you could hate about our town.

Not to mention fly fishing, horseback riding, hot springs soaking, and snowmobiling. Need I say more?

But if you’re looking for a relaxing getaway with fine dining and shopping, Steamboat has plenty of that, too. You can easily spend several days strolling around downtown, trying delicious mountain delicacies, or taking in the local art scene.

And no matter what time of year you visit, you should definitely allow yourself time to soak in the natural hot springs. Check out Old Town Hot Springs in downtown Steamboat or head out to Strawberry Park Hot Springs nestled in the forest about 20 minutes north of Steamboat. Both are amazing experiences.

Does Steamboat have a lodge?

Besides the Mariposa Lodge B&B and The Nordic Lodge mentioned in this blog post, there is also The Lodge At Steamboat which offers 1, 2, or 3-bedroom self-catering condos just a couple blocks away from the gondola.

And if you want to experience a taste of the “Old West” without giving up any modern conveniences, you can stay at the Vista Verde Guest Ranch. Located just north of Steamboat Springs near the small town of Clark, this ranch offers luxury accommodations with a western flare.

What is the best time of year to visit Steamboat?

This totally depends on the activities you want to do and your budget. Steamboat is an incredible place at any time of year, but hiking is best from summer to fall. And the ski season usually runs from late November to mid-April.

June to August and December to February are the most expensive months for the summer and winter peak seasons. The shoulder seasons, or “mud seasons” as we say in Steamboat, are March-May and September-November. During these months, you’ll find the best deals on accommodation.

If you want to tear up Steamboat’s ski mountain but don’t want to pay full price for your pass, you can find great early bird deals in October-November. There are also discounted passes in April towards the end of the ski season.

But to wrap it up, springtime in Steamboat is the wettest and muddiest period with (as you can imagine) lots of snowmelt. Summer is stunning with plenty of sunshine and blue skies. Fall is magical when the aspen leaves turn to gold. And you’ll be guaranteed champagne powder snow conditions in winter.
