How Much Can You Make Teaching Online?

It is completely unnecessary to speak another language. All online English teaching platforms are immersive, meaning you’ll only be speaking to your students in English.

我开始在网上教学之前,我是担心的I wouldn’t be able to communicate with students that couldn’t speak any English. You’ll learn quickly that body language and props can help you interact with beginner students; they all catch on very quickly.

How Long Does It Take To Get Started?

Every online English teaching platform is different in regards to the hiring process. Some companies require their teachers to complete long orientation training, while others have their teachers present a short demo.

On average, it takes approximately 1-2 weeks to start and complete a hiring process with any given company. Completing this process will allow you to teach kids English online and start making a remote income.

If you’re interested in obtaining your TEFL certificate, you can do it online through this link:

It is very common for online English teachers to work for more than one company. In fact, I would suggest it! Due to a lack of job security, working for two or more online English teaching companies is smart.

Teach Kids English Online

I also recommend this for new online English teachers. Many companies throw their teachers to the wolves. Or in other words, they don’t help them acquire classes. Teaching with more than one online English teaching company will increase the chances that you’ll get bookings right away.

  1. Hi,
I love your videos, blog, and any place you two appear! You have such a fun, fresh approach to life and I admire your spirit of adventure – along with your logic in considering the need for security, and In preparation for the next part of your journey.
I am a grandmother of the 5 most incredible young people in the world! Their parents are not too bad, either. My background is in social service, working with adults living with developmental disabilities, later in special education, and testing and helping place kids in ESL classes, etc.
I have MS and a couple of other inconveniences, and for financial reasons, and an immune deficiency, I cannot spend time in enclosed places with people! Kind of rules out everywhere, I think! It’s all ok though, I started working with VIPKid about 2 months, or so, ago. I’ve been in and out of the hospital – shortish visits- so my bookings were sparse. Then I had to finally request a discontinuation of a little boy, that I loved, but had issues that no one would deal with. I couldn’t take money for not accomplishing anything, and for possibly impeding his getting help. I may have stepped on my own tail, because with that and being sick for a bit, I have no bookings. I’ve taken other certification classes, etc., but nothing is moving. I signed up with ITutorGroup, and they froze me out and I guess fired me, even with corroboration of my hospital/ambulance trips! Unbelievable redundant pat excuses with no consideration!
Sorry to ramble. I think I read that you had a second agency that you worked with as a back up. If so, is it too intrusive to ask which one? I’m following some of your suggestions, and will try others, and
am definitely staying with VIP, but if I can try someone in addition, I’d like to do that , too.
Either way, info or not – I wish you both safe travels, much love and nonsense, and great success! Thank you for the enjoyment of the adventure and travels, and for the enlightening information!
    Teri

    1. Hi Teri,

I’m glad you reached out. So just to clarify, I have never worked with another company besides VIPKID, but I know a lot of teachers that do work for more than one.

In my opinion, the most established companies are MagicEars, SayABC, and Whales English. I would take a look at any of those three first. Continue on with VIPKID and be sure to check out our bookings post for tips on how to increase your booking rate!

If you ever have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out!

      All the best,
      Laura
