Is VIPKID Legit or a Pyramid Scheme?

Is VIPKID legit? Is VIPKID a pyramid scheme? These are the two most common questions potential teachers ask regarding this online English teaching company.

Misinformation surroundsVIPKIDbecause honestly, it does seem “too good to be true”. In this blog post, I address these two questions and explain everything you need to know about whether this company is trustworthy or not.

What Is VIPKID?

VIPKID is an online English teaching platform. They cater to Chinese students between the ages of 3 – 15.

VIPKID hires native English speakers from the United States or Canada. In order to get hired, prospective teachers must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited University. This can be a degree in any subject.

Another requirement for teaching with VIPKID is one year of experience with children. This experience could include babysitting, homeschooling, coaching, mentoring, and other life experiences.

VIPKID supplies the teaching materials and the teachers are responsible for delivering them; prep work is unnecessary for this job. Classes are one-on-one and last for 25 minutes.

Is VIPKID A Pyramid Scheme?

The short answer is no. VIPKID is simply an online English teaching company that outsources its orientation procedures to current teachers. But, let me break down the long answer for you:

Those unfamiliar with VIPKID might get the idea that it’s a pyramid scheme. The reason they might believe this is because current VIPKID teachers are paid for each new teacher they refer. When that new teacher signs up, goes through the application process, and teaches their first class, the referring teacher earns $100.

VIPKID’s motto is “current teachers are our best advertising.” As an exponentially growing company, VIPKID is always seeking new teachers to accommodate their high number of students.

What Is Your Job As A Referring Teacher?

Unlike actual pyramid schemes, VIPKID pays their current teachers for mentoring and walking the new teachers through the daunting hiring process; if you’re about to go through the application process, you’ll realize why it’s important to have someone there to help you.

VIPKID believes that there is no better way to introduce and teach new teachers the ropes than having veteran teachers give them tips and advice.VIPKID pays us for our time, not for selling anything.

For the first year of working with VIPKID, I didn’t refer anyone. I was content with just teaching my students.Referring teachers is completely optional.

Without referring, teachers can easily make a full-time income by just teaching classes. Last year, I chose this option because I didn’t know anyone who might want to teach with VIPKID.

This year, I started to blog about my experience teaching with VIPKID, which spread the word to other potential teachers. I currently teach approximately 30 hours a week and help new teachers (recruit阿)n the side.

We don’t get the bonus unless you are a successful teacher

One of the things that a pyramid scheme aims to do is onboard new clients, customers, or sellers. From what I’ve found, those involved with pyramid schemes don’t really care if you’re successful. They just want you to sign up under them. In turn, they make money anytime YOU make money. So, if you get people to sign up under you, the referral makes money, too.

This is not how VIPKID works at all. Referring teachers make a one-time bonus of $100. They only get this bonus when the new teacher has completed the entire application process and teaches their first class. If a new teacher goes through the hiring process and doesn’t teach any classes, the referring teacher didn’t successfully mentor you.

In short, VIPKID teachers are given an incentive to help new teachers through the process and become successful teachers. Apart from your referring teacher, there is very little support from VIPKID for new teachers. That is why they recommend you sign up using a referral code.

Is VIPKID Legit?

If VIPKID wasn’t legit, I wouldn’t be working for them, and neither would thousands of others. VIPKID is one of the best online English teaching companies in the world. The coursework they provide their students is created by professionals who work closely with international learning standards.

Teachers are required to undergo an arduous application process in order to weed out unqualified applicants. Although the hiring process can be daunting, it is completely worth it.

I have been teaching with VIPKID for over a year and a half and use this source of remote income totravel the world full-time.

Do you actually get paid?

Being a company from a foreign country, having apprehension about pay is completely understandable. It is actually the first question I get asked, “do they actually pay you?”

The answer is yes! I’ve worked with VIPKID for over a year and a half and have never had an issue with payment. I am always paid on time and the payment is closely calculated by the VIPKID financial team.

其教师每月或每两周depe VIPKID支付nding on your preference. This week, they introduced a new form of payment where teachers can be paid weekly if they so choose. Personally, I receive my payment via direct deposit, which makes life a whole lot easier.

VIPKID pays its teachers per class; each class lasts for 25 minutes. Salary is dependent on your qualifications, which include teaching experience, whether or not you have a teaching license, and how well you do during the hiring process. On average, teachers make between $18-22 per hour.

Do you actually get classes?

This is a big complaint with VIPKID employees, especially new teachers. Why haven’t I had any bookings?

When you first start out with VIPKID, bookings will be slow. Unfortunately, getting bookings takes time. This holds true for every teacher who starts working with VIPKID because the parents of the students need time to get to know you. After teaching a few trial classes, your bookings will steadily pick up.

On average, it takes approximately 2-3 months to get a completely full schedule. Although it can be frustrating to wait this long, stick it out. You’ll be happy you did.
